Summary

Scott is a trial lawyer with 30 years of experience developing and trying a variety of commercial and intellectual property disputes. Over his career, he has tried 30+ cases to verdict. His trials include claims for breach of contract, fraud, trade secret misappropriation, patent infringement, and criminal matters. In representing plaintiffs, he has won 4 nine-figure verdicts and judgments and has recovered well over $1 billion for his clients.

Scott has spent his career at some of the best law firms in the world.  Most recently, he spent 3 ½ years as a partner with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, helping to found its Austin office. Before that, he spent 20 years with McKool Smith, P.C., making partner in 2003.  He began his career with Vinson & Elkins LLP and spent a year in private equity in the New York area before moving to Austin to join McKool Smith in 2001.

Scott has been recognized since 2014 in the Best Lawyers in America and the IAM Patent 1000. He won Texas Lawyer’s “Lawyer of the Week” for the $391 million judgment in Versata v. SAP and later won the American Lawyer’s “Lawyer of the Week” for the affirmance of that judgment at the Federal Circuit, believed to be the largest judgment ever affirmed by the Federal Circuit at the time.
